An Overview of Citizens’ Rights & Using Denton County Public Records Responsibly

The U.S. Freedom of Information Act and the Texas Public Information Act help increase government transparency and ensure the right of the people to examine records kept by local, county, state, and national agencies.

However, that doesn’t mean that members of the public are allowed to use the information they’ve gathered from public records searches for unlawful activity. That includes using information to intimidate, stalk, or harass another person. It’s also against the law to use someone’s information for identity theft or fraud.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) also prohibits companies and other entities from using your information to unlawfully discriminate against you. That includes running a background check for professional reasons such as pre-employment screenings without your knowledge and consent.

If you think that you have been discriminated against by a would-be employer or in your current workplace, you can contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for assistance.29 In addition, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) helps the victims of fraud.

In addition, residents of Texas can contact the state’s Workforce Commission and Civil Rights Project for help if they believe they have been the victims of discriminatory practices.

If you want to uncover more about someone who has lived in this part of the state, Denton County public records can provide you with plenty of knowledge.
